Most of the sites we know around the Cowichan valley have what we feel are true Cowichan names. But reality couldn't be further from the truth. Many of the traditional place names contain sounds that are nearly unpronounceable by an English speaker, so the true names were modified to make it easier for settlers to pronounce.

This has led to a lot of confusion and near loss of the real and true village names. So let's set the record straight in this shoot.
