The Traditional Stone pulling ceremony was organized by the Thenyizumi Youth Social Welfare Organisation on 4th December 2021 from Thenyizumi Gate to the local ground which is approximately one and half kms.

Almost all the citizens of the village participated in the event which is being organized as a prelude to the Golden Jubilee Celebration slated from 14-18 December 2021.

The stone measures 16 feet in length, 4 feet by breath and half feet in thickness and is approximately 10 tons. The stone is donated by the children of N.Theyo former minister.

Stone pulling ceremony is an age old tradition. It is said that, when a couple offers a Feast of Merit to the villages for two occasions, then they will become eligible to erect stone to their memory. Couples would toil hard for years together to provide a feast to the entire village whereby they would earn fame and name. The stone would symbolically live eternally in the memory of the people and thus the hard earned wealth is shared with the entire village.

Stone pulling ceremony has its own design and intricacies. Prior to the event, the hardest tree trunk available in the vicinity would be made ready and placed beneath the stone which then becomes a sled.

The stone would be tied with ropes whereby the stone would not slide and be protected while it is being pulled. Above the stone are strong bamboo poles strongly tied which serves as the steering. The ablest and most strong persons from the village are given charge to take control of the steering.

The physically well-built and strong persons are positioned in the first rows so as to pull and provide impetus to the movement of the stone.

The entire male folk dressed in traditional finery would pull the stone. Women would also be dressed in their traditional finery and would provide refreshment to their brothers, fathers and lovers. They would provide comfort to the menfolk for the arduous task being carried out.

The Stone shall be erected at the local ground and the same would be unveiled on 14th December 2021 by Shri. Chotisuh Sazo Hon’ble MLA in commemoration of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of TYSWO.
