The self-join is a special kind of joins that allow you to join a table to itself using either LEFT JOIN or INNER JOIN clause. You use self-join to create a result set that joins the rows with the other rows within the same table.




perform a self join, you must use table aliases to not repeat the same table name twice in a single query. Note that referencing a table twice or more in a query without using table aliases will cause an error.



self join is a join in which a table is joined with itself (which is also called Unary relationships), especially when the table has a FOREIGN KEY which references its own PRIMARY KEY. To join a table itself means that each row of the table is combined with itself and with every other row of the table.
