Unit testing code is a proven way of verifying that segments of code perform their behavior correctly. Having tests allows for faster iteration times, both by making it easier to isolate bugs, and by making sure that code is checked whenever its tests are built and run, not just whenever the code is used inside a plugin or application. Unfortunately, when it comes to audio code, testing can be difficult, especially since audio software is often not developed to conform to a specification, but to deliver an aesthetic experience.

This talk will show you concrete examples of how to write tests for basic audio nodes such as oscillators, filters, and delays that will let you quickly find bugs and be confident that your code behaves the way you expect it to. It will also examine how to identify what behaviors are and aren't important to test, and how you can find testable properties of audio processors so that you can design and write your own tests.
