What happened to the prophet Elijah? Well, Elijah was a prophetic giant. In the Bible, God used him to institute a drought against Ahab and Israel. God used him to defeat the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel.

But his end is very different from many other prophets. Elijah is taken up into heaven. It actually records that as they, Elijah and Elisha still went on and talked.

Behold, chariots of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. He never died. We actually don't hear again about Elijah until the New Testament where in the gospels Jesus goes up to a high mountain and at the Transfiguration Elijah and Moses are both seen talking to Jesus.

But even that's not the end. It actually says in Malachi chapter four that Elijah will return before the great and awesome day of the Lord. And then many Bible scholars believe that Elijah will make an appearance at the end times.
