Microphone Comparison: WA87r2 and UAD Sphere LX

I wanted to compare 2 of the microphones I use most for vocals, and I thought a comparison may be useful for someone deciding between the WA87r2 and the UAD Sphere Lx.

I compared the WA87r2 with the UAD Sphere models of: LD 87 Vintage, LD 87 Modern, LD K47 and LD 251 (I didn’t mention the 251 in the intro, but I thought of it halfway through the video and thought I’d add it).

Both mics are set to figure 8 so that I could test how much the null rejected the acoustic guitar. The WA87r2 is physically set to figure 8, and I set all the mic models in the Sphere software to figure 8 as well.

I matched the levels to be as close as I could with a trim plugin.

No processing was added other than adding an Izoptope Ozone limiter plugin to bring up the overall volume.
