Scotland sees snowfall as Storm Kathleen gets set to hit the country with strong winds and rain

Heavy rain and snow sparked travel chaos as Storm Kathleen battered large parts of Scotland on Friday.

Motorists in the north of the country were urged to drive carefully as gritters tackled affected routes on the A9, A85 and A889 on Friday morning.

Snow was heavy in parts of northern Scotland, with Perthshire and the Stirling area also seeing plenty of the white stuff on a cold start to the day.

The UK is set to be battered by heavy rain and winds of up to 70mph during Storm Kathleen. Wet and windy conditions were forecast to arrive on Friday, heading into Saturday, as the storm rolls in.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for wind in western areas of the UK, including Northern Ireland, parts of Scotland and Wales, and the north-west and south-west of England from 8am to 10pm on Saturday.
