Farming with a John Deere 4240 Iron Horse tractor

When John Deere introduced their new line of tractors for 1978 they built upon the reputation created by Generation II, but this new series was distinctly upgraded and came with the slogan of "More Horses, More Iron", hence the name of these new machines: The New Iron Horses. I considered myself fortunate that I was able to acquire one of them in 1981, namely a 4240, and here on my small farm in East Central Saskatchewan my tractor toiled long and hard in making my life a lot easier. These tractors without a doubt certainly lived up to their name, after more then 40 years many of them are still at work in this district, still going strong, still providing reliable power and the stamina to keep working.
