Why I Loved Ys VI

Ys VI was a title on my JRPG backlog for 2021, and after blasting through Ys Seven a week before, I felt it was the perfect time to give Ark of Napishtim a go, especially since Ys IX was still in transit to me at that point.

YS VI was the first game to utilize the so called ‘Napishtim style’, a combat style that moved away from the bump style from the likes of YS I and YS V. This in itself would later become the model for combat in Ys: The Oath in Felghana and Ys Origin.

If you’re curious as to what YS game you should play first, or whether you should play the YS games in order, then I think you might get an idea of what to expect from YS VI in this review.

As with all reviews I do there are minor spoilers for the game, but nothing that will take away from your experience, and as is my creed I’ve also finished the game before reviewing it, clocking in around 10 hours.
With that out the way, it’s time to dive in and find out why I loved YS VI.
