Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Astray (機動戦士ガンダムSEED ASTRAY) is a side story manga set in the Cosmic Era timeline that takes place concurrently with Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.

This Episode portrays the End of the First Volume.

The Junk Guild's second job involves converting the space colony Litilia into a huge spaceship. Because Litilia is in a strategically useless area of space, it is considered neutral and is ignored by both ZAFT and the Alliance.

This chapter shows us the battle between Elijah Kiel and Gud Vair.
Gud Vair was a combat coordinator created by the Earth Alliance some time before they started the Socius series. However, he was considered a failure as he managed to break free of the EA's mental conditioning and escaped. He later joined ZAFT and became an ace pilot who uses a customized red colored GINN. He is known as "The Hero Of ZAFT" because once when all friendly forces were annihilated, he managed to defeat the enemy fleet single-handedly.

Kiel was once employed by ZAFT to kill Gud Vair, but after finding him at the Litilia space colony, he befriended Gud instead. Gud convinces Elijah that not having the superior physiology of Coordinator despie being one is not a bad thing and these words left a lasting impression on Elijah and strengthened their friendship. When the EA fleet attacks the Literia space colony, Elijah and Gud launch to protect the colony but Gud's fierce personality starts to surface, and he fights Elijah to a draw. Despite Gud's begging to kill him and to end his suffering, Elijah could not bear to do so. Gai Murakumo who is accompanying the EA forces to the Literia space colony then kills Gud in order to save Elijah. As it is thought that Elijah is the one who killed Gud,"The Hero Of ZAFT", he receives the nickname "Hero Killer".

Gud Vair has a pair of broken headphones that plays nothing but noises, he used to wear it while piloting MS for ZAFT. While at the Litilia space colony, he accidentally comes into contact with Lacus' soothing music and this breaks his addiction for noises. He also learnt that the soothing music can suppress his evil personality. He later asked Lowe Guele and Kisato Yamabuki to fix his broken headphones. Unfortunately, Kisato did not fixed it properly.
