Extraordinary Modes of Fossil Preservation

Описание к видео Extraordinary Modes of Fossil Preservation

Most of us are familiar with fossils, ranging from invertebrates like shells, bugs, and ammonites, to giant vertebrates like dinosaurs. The vast majority are preserved through permineralization, where groundwater percolates through pore spaces and deposits minerals within them. But not always! In this talk, Jon Noad presents some very unusual and truly spectacular examples of fossilization, ranging from replacement by opal and various metals including gold; to preservation of internal organs as casts; fossil feathers, nests, and eggs; three-dimensional specimens, and more.
