Do and Make are two verbs that are frequently confuse learners. This two part lesson will be about the difference between Do and Make and when to use each one.

When do you use Do?
1. Do is used when talking about work,job,or tasks
I did my homework.

2. When you talk about non-specific activities. In this case we usually use words like thing, something, nothing, anything, everything etc.
I am bored. I want yo do something.
Hurry up! I have many things to do!

3. We sometimes use Do to replace a verb when it is obvious. This is more common in informal English.
Do I need to do the laundry? (Do=wash)
I must do my hair. (Do=style,comb,brush)

When do we use Make?

1. Make is for producing, creating,building,constructing something new.

2. To talk about the origin of the product or the material that are used.
Her wedding ring is made of gold.
This pen is made in Korea.

3. Also use Make for producing and action or reaction.
Chopping onions make your eyes water.

4. Use Make when talking about certain nouns about plans and decisions
We need to make a plan for our trip to Paris.

5. We use Make with nouns about speaking and certain sounds.
The children made a lot of noise.
She made a rude comment.

6. We use Make with food,drinks and meals.
She will make a cake.
He made breakfast.
The barista made a delicious latte.
