Last video from the cover crop plot project...Legumes! Winter rye has been the go-to cover crop after corn silage, but adding legumes in with the rye can help break up the grass on grass rotation (corn, rye, corn). Legumes help add diversity into the system and their ability to fix nitrogen compliments the following season's corn. In this plot we looked at crimson clover, red clover, and hairy vetch. Check out how each performed and the options farmers have when planting a cover after corn silage. Thanks again to Woldt Farms LLC and Kaczmarek Farm for participating in this project.
