I just launched my startup!! Now that I finished it's MVP after 4 years, my coding chops are at their peak, and now I'm using them to compose algorithmic music again!! Right now I'm in the process of creating my own interpreted programming language so I can speak more efficiently to the computer about music. In doing so, I stumbled upon a really flexible framework for generating rich, self changing musical patterns. The system develops a simple 1 measure motif, in this case random, into a beautiful, slightly changing musical process that's familiar, and recognizable to the ear, but always surprising. In using random patterns for rhythms, controlled by this simple processing idea, I think I've found a new rhythmic sweet spot for all my compositions - one that clearly has a recognizable longer pattern (every 4 - 16 beats), but gets lost between each measure beat.

This is the simplest version of the framework, which I call "the machine". Implemented using functional programming patterns in C++, the machine generates 1 simple measure and exports it to a file, which I load in Supercollider to perform.
