Two Israeli soldiers killed, 18 wounded in Hezbollah ambush

Al Jazeera is reporting from outside Israel because it has been banned by the Israeli government

Israeli media are now reporting two Israeli soldiers have been killed and 18 others wounded in clashes with Hezbollah fighters this morning on the border with Lebanon near the town of Odaisseh.

These were really the first face-to-face clashes since Israel announced its ground offensive on Tuesday.

Israel knows a ground invasion against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon is a very different challenge than facing Hamas in Gaza. Hezbollah is a formidable enemy that has trained for this, and has battle-hardened soldiers who fought for many years in Syria.









U.S. officials say Iranian ballistic missile attack to happen in next 12 hours
U.S. officials estimate that Iran will launch a ballistic missile attack against Israel in the next 12 hours, the New York Times reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, the attack will likely occur after dark in the region.

The official, who spoke to the Times on condition of anonymity, said Iran may also launch cruise missiles and drones, as it did in its April attack – which Israel entirely thwarted together with its allies.

The US State Department designated Hizballah as a foreign terrorist organization in October 1997. More than 60 other countries and organizations, including the EU, the Arab League, and the Gulf Cooperation Council, have also designated Hizballah—either in part or in its entirety—as a terrorist group.)
