HABIB JALIB

Habib Jalib (24 March 1928 - 12 March 1993) was a revered Pakistani poet and a fearless advocate for the rights of the common people. Born as Habib Ahmad in British India, he migrated to Pakistan after partition, where he embarked on a journey as a prominent voice against oppression and injustice. Working initially as a proofreader in Karachi, he soon captured the hearts of audiences with his impassioned recitations and straightforward yet powerful poetry. Jalib's verses, characterized by their simplicity and directness, resonated deeply with the masses, earning him the title of "the poet of the masses" from his contemporary, Faiz Ahmed Faiz. Throughout his life, Jalib remained steadfast in his opposition to martial law, authoritarianism, and state oppression, earning him admiration and respect from all corners. Despite facing imprisonment and persecution for his outspoken views, he continued to use his pen as a weapon against tyranny. Jalib's legacy endures through his timeless poetry, which continues to inspire generations in their quest for justice and freedom.
