205 Sea Kayaking the Maine Island Trail
Paddle along as we seek out true islands of solitude on Penobscot Bay in midcoast Maine. Bouncing over big ocean swells, we travel part of the Maine Island Trail, a sort of watery version of the Appalachian Trail that utilizes state-owned islands as stopovers along its 325-mile length. Trailside host John Viehman joins veteran sea kayaker/oceanographer Ken Fink to demonstrate the full spectrum of paddle strokes to keep a kayak upright, no matter how hard the waves try to do otherwise. They'll also detail the latest low-impact practices that let you visit and camp on these fragile islands without leaving a trace.
