On August 4, 1997 the San Francisco Seals stunned the Kansas City Wizards of the MLS in a 2-1 smack down at USF's Negoesco Stadium. Marquis White put a knife in the backs of the Wizards twice with lethal efficiency. This is a clip highlighting both of Quis's goals, but also note the stark difference between the soccer royalty of the Wizards and the humble origins of the Seals players. The Seals hailed from local colleges. The Wizards boasted Preki and Frank Klopas from the US National Team, Mark Chung a leading scorer in the MLS, Coach Ron Newman the MLS All Star coach from the previous season. The Wizards were considered the strongest team in the MLS on the night the Seals brought a nightmare ending to their Open Cup dreams. US Soccer listed this match as the 7th greatest match in the 100 year history of the US Open Cup. After this "Round of 16" the Seals went on to the Quarterfinals of the US Open Cup to face the San Jose Clash at Spartan Stadium.
