We hiked Porters Creek Trail up to Fern Branch Falls. It was 4 miles round-trip and took over 2.5 hours. The first part of the trail is wide, flat, and covered with gravel to make it an easier pathway. However, the farther you go the trail begins to narrow and becomes increasingly more difficult. The last climb up to the actual waterfall is the hardest. Along the way, we crossed over a couple of log bridges and saw a few pink lady slipper flowers. There several old stone walls, an old barn, and a cabin to explore. There are also several places to stop and view the "creek" which is more like a river. Fern Branch Falls is approximately 60 feet tall, but doesn't have a ton of water flowing over it. While it might not be as impressive as some of the larger waterfalls in the Smokies, it was still a beautiful sight and a nice hike.
