‘Better Starts Now’ philosophy
We’ve come a long way from the day we made our first watch. But there’s one thing we’ve always believed. A watch is made of so many things, thousands of details, and each one can always be improved. That’s the essence of our brand statement: ‘Better Starts Now.’ We believe that it is always possible to make something better and now is the time to start doing it. More accurate. Thinner. More attractive. CITIZEN has invented many ‘world firsts’ and ‘world bests’ over our history, but that doesn’t help us to invent any more. All that counts at CITIZEN is that you’re looking for a way to be better.

100th Anniversary of the First CITIZEN Watch
The first watch I am going to show you this year is a reinterpretation of the 1924 pocket watch which marks our origins. We’ve reimagined it from a contemporary standpoint based on the spirit of ‘Better Starts Now.’ We express the concept of ‘widely used and cherished’ implicit in the name CITIZEN, taking the ‘now’ of 2024 as our starting point, rather than merely reproducing the past.

The aim of the original 1924 pocket watch was to match the imported watches of the time on quality. Thinking back to the amazing efforts of those engineers, we tried to produce something even more beautifully finished. Take the diamond cut we applied to the sides of the bridges, complementing their sinuous shapes, or the perlage (pearl-pattern) finish on the base plate. These are new elements we devised for this model. When it comes to accuracy, we conducted the same battery of accuracy tests we use for the Caliber 0200 family, but with some modifications to accommodate the different specifications of a pocket watch. While we based the movement on the Caliber 0200, we actually redesigned the thing from scratch. We consulted the technical drawings from 100 years ago and designed the whole layout around keeping the small seconds hand in the same place as the original. The overall appearance, with the arrangement of the gears and the gear train, was fitted around that. We used the same techniques and manufacturing processes we developed for the Caliber 0200. Use of the LIGA microstructure fabrication technique makes the individual components finer and more precise. We also opted for a free-sprung balance wheel for sustained accurate timekeeping.
Electroforming, clear coating and polishing are applied to the dial to create an image of time accumulating, like the steady build-up of snow in a snowfall. The titanium alloy case with its rounded edges and mirror finish fits snugly in the hand. Thanks to a practical level of water resistance, you can make the watch part of your everyday life.This watch encapsulates our history and our evolution: 100 years ago—and now. It’s a watch that simultaneously looks 100 years into the past and 100 years into the future.

CITIZEN PROMASTER Eco-Drive Combination Watch
Fitted with the new Caliber U822, this combination watch is part of the PROMASTER Land series. It has all the multi-functionality our customers expect, but adds a higher-resolution liquid crystal display, making for enhanced legibility outdoors. The indices are easy-to-read Arabic numerals. Coated with lume in two different colours, they are highly visible both day and night. The knurl pattern on the case’s key surfaces does a good job of communicating strength and toughness.

CITIZEN L Arcly Collection
The next model from CITIZEN L takes the sunrise as its motif, symbolising new beginnings. The ornament, which features three diamonds, evokes the first rays of the rising sun. Meanwhile, the red dial also suggests the colour of the dawn sky. As well as using recycled materials for the dial, we provide a replacement strap of apple leather. This watch expresses our commitment to sustainability and our hope that people will use our products for a long time.

CITIZEN Series 8 890 Mechanical
This model is the Series 8 890 Mechanical: Functionality and practicality united in a modern design. 20 bar water resistance and a bi-directional rotating inner bezel give this model a sportier image. The dial pattern, which combines the Tokyo night skyline with the traditional ‘lucky’ checkerboard motif, is a signature design element of Series 8. Here, we’ve given it an even more contemporary twist. As an item, this watch encapsulates and expresses the lifestyle and worldview of the wearer.
