Boot sector virus: Infects the master boot record (MBR) and activates when the computer starts up.  Macro virus: Hides in documents and spreads through macro languages used in applications like Microsoft Office. 
File infector virus: Attaches itself to executable files (\(.exe\)) and spreads when the program is run.  Polymorphic virus: Changes its code each time it spreads to evade detection by antivirus software.  Web scripting virus: Disguises itself in website code, such as ads and images, and can execute on a user's device through a browser. 
Resident virus: Installs itself in the computer's memory (RAM) and can operate even after the original source is deleted. 
Multipartite virus: Uses multiple methods to spread, often infecting both files and the boot sector.  Overwrite virus: Deletes the original content of files to infect them, making the original data unusable.
