Session Description:
Every planting season farmers are faced with the daunting challenge of a prevalent and complex weed problem. Herbicide resistance and environmental impact have prompted the industry to look into more sustainable and holistic weed control technology. Correct identification of weeds is essential to achieve effective weed control and minimize crop injury. Daugherty Business Solution and KWS partnered to develop an innovative solution to aid in the identification of plants at various stages of development. Combining custom features (created with computer vision techniques) with advanced convolutional neural networks we were able to locate a plant in a picture, separate the plant from the background, segment the image, extract features, and classify the plant.
