The NWOBHM was the crucible wherein new electric warriors forged the modern heavy metal sound and many of its most beloved and longest-lasting variants. But as with all musical revolutions, it eventually ran out of steam. 1986 saw the last few releases that can likely be considered part of the original NWOBHM movement.
So what happened in the UK metal scene afterwards?
The mid-late 80s witnessed UK bands developing in several different directions. Some NWOBHM veterans reinvented themselves. Younger bands were taking metal into more extreme realms of chaos. And though somewhat late to the dance, there was a thrash scene that turned out a fair number of albums as the decade drew to a close.
Tonight I step beyond the NWOBHM and chat about what came next on British shores before the Peaceville Three rose to dominance at the dawn of the 90s.
