The ovaries are situated between the uterus and fallopian tubes. They are an essential element in reproduction & they get smaller from puberty to menopause because they lose their follicles and eggs.
Overtime, as a woman grows older, the ovulation events cease to occur, as the eggs in the ovaries decrease. This point in a woman’s life is also known as menopause, the ovaries then decrease in size.
Ovarian size an important parameter in your ability to get pregnant.
The average length of each ovary is:
During the reproductive years (age 15 to 44): 3 - 5 centimeters
During the perimenopause (age 45 to 50): One and a half to two and a half centimeters
Women with ovaries that are about two and a half centimeters or less in length, generally have more trouble in conceiving.
Do large ovaries mean that a woman has a better chance at being fertile?
Large ovaries do not necessarily translate to a woman being more fertile. This is because, in certain cases, the ovaries can be large in size due to the presence of cysts or tumours. Large ovaries are also seen in women with polycystic ovaries. Which can lead to abnormalities in ovulation and getting pregnant.
