A magnitude 7.1 earthquake hit Afghanistan's Hindukush mountain region at 14:28 on Sunday, according to data from the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The earthquake struck at a depth of 210 kilometers and lasted for over one minute. Afghanistan's capital Kabul experienced the force of the quake, which was also felt in parts of Pakistan, India and China.

"I was working inside my restaurant when the earthquake occurred. I suddenly felt the building begin shaking. The customers immediately left the restaurant to find open spaces,” said Mohammed Akif, a restaurant owner in Kabul.

The epicenter in Hindukush sits on a seismically active zone and is situated some 300 kilometers from Kabul. On October 26, 2015, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck the same region, causing multiple casualties in both Afghanistan and Pakistan.

There have so far been no reports of any injuries or significant property damage from the Afghan government.

The earthquake also shook southern parts of China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, causing some housing damage but no casualties. Three trains were delayed in the aftermath of the quake.
