This young seal got entangled in a piece of gill net. With gill nets, the OCN rescuers have to work strand by strand to remove all of the netting. They have to make sure no pieces are left behind.
These nets are designed to catch fish, but they don’t discriminate and entangle any animal they get close to. They are so deadly, they have been declared illegal in many areas of the world, including Namibia, and our marine animals should be safe at least from this threat.
