To get rid of broadleaf and grassy weeds in larger patches of ornamental turf, like on commercial or industrial properties, check out MSM Turf Herbicide. MSM Turf is a post-emergent herbicide used to control weeds like bahiagrass, Virginia buttonweed, and dollarweed. This product is formulated as a water-dispersible granule and is made with Metsulfuron Methyl.

MSM Turf needs to be mixed with water before application. For acreages of treatment area, you may need a spray rig to output enough water to cover the area in its entirety.

Before any application, put on your personal protective equipment, or PPE. Wear a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, closed-toe shoes, and chemical-resistant gloves.

Calculate the size of your treatment area and use that to determine how much product you’ll use. Depending on the weed you’re treating the labeled mix rate will range from 0.125 ounces of product per acre to 1 whole ounce of product per acre. Mix 20 to 80 gallons of solution per acre.

Apply MSM Turf over areas where weeds are established. Make applications on calm days to avoid drift, and keep people and pets off the treated areas until the product dries completely.

You should see visible signs of decline in treated weeds 1 to 2 weeks after application. Some weeds are more resilient than others and may require a follow-up application 4 to 6 weeks after the initial application.

MSM Turf Herbicide can be applied to control weeds growing in ornamental turf such as lawns, parks, cemeteries, and golf courses. This product may also be used to control weeds in rangelands. MSM Turf Herbicide is labeled to control weeds in cool-season turf like Kentucky Bluegrass and Fine Fescue, and it may also be used to control weeds in warm-season turf like St Augustinegrass, bermudagrass, or Zoysiagrass. Slight chlorosis or stunting of the turfgrass may occur following application to warm-season grasses.

MSM Turf is most effective when applied to unwanted vegetation that is healthy with green leafy tissue, ideally before plants have seeded. Do not apply to areas where non-targeted grass or plants are affected by fungi or disease.
