What started as a normal day for Joe Loduha turned out to be one he'll likely never forget.

On Tuesday, Sept. 22, Loduha was driving down 68th Street in Wauwatosa, close to where he grew up, to a carpentry job nearby.

As he was driving he noticed smoke nearby. Loduha, who used to be an emergency medical technician, thought he'd check it out.

When he arrived at the home, he saw smoke billowing out of the back of it. A neighbor was dialing 9-1-1, as no fire crews were on scene yet.

"I jumped out of my car, screaming, 'Is anyone inside? Is anyone inside?'" Loduha said.

The neighbor said he wasn't sure whether anyone was home, but he knew that a dog was inside.
