Описание к видео After months of lockdown, Pakistan Theatre Festival begins in Karachi

(1 Oct 2020) KARACHI THEATRE FESTIVAL BEGINS
The annual Karachi Theatre festival kicked off Thursday (1 OCT. 2020).
The festival will stage 22 plays. The first is "Heer" directed by Zain Ahmed. It's a modern spin to the popular folktale of Heer-Ranjha, about the tragic love story of Heer Syal and her lover Dheedo Ranjha. This version is told from a woman's perspective.

The festival also marks the resumption of cultural activities that had brought live performances to a standstill due to the pandemic.
"The last few months since the pandemic have been very tough," said Ahmed. "Unlike other professions where people have jobs and guaranteed incomes, artists only get paid if they perform."
However, the festival has also coincided with fears over another uptick in Covid-19 cases.
Sindh Cultural Minister Sardar Ali Shah, who was present at the festival, emphasized the need to follow safety protocols.

"We have spent so many months in lockdown which was very difficult and painful. It's time for some joy now," he said.
The festival, which runs through October 18, includes plays written by Talat Hussain, Anjum Ayaz, Sheema Kermani and Khaled Ahmed, among others.
"I am extremely happy. It's like Eid (religious festival) has come again," said Ahsan Bari, a musician in attendance.
