India recognized Israel in 1950 but it was in 1992 when it established full diplomatic relations with Israel. As of today, India is Israel’s single largest importer of defense equipment constituting about 50 percent of Israel’s defense exports and about 30 percent of India’s imports. The signing of an Indo-Israel Free Trade Agreement (FTA) would raise annual trade from $5 billion per annum to 15 billion dollars. Israel is already investing in Indian states like Maharashtra, Bihar, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Haryana, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Punjab. India is also the second-largest Asian economic partner of Israel. In August 2012, India and Israel signed a $50 million academic research agreement. Currently, the two nations are negotiating an extensive bilateral free trade pact, focusing on areas such as information technology, biotechnology, and agriculture.
Defense Collaboration Between India and Israel

3. Night fighting devices to the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force
4. Improved the Radar network by providing advanced electronic warfare systems

These systems have significantly improved India’s reconnaissance and surveillance capabilities. Collaborating to strengthen their military ties, especially in areas like joint research and development in defense projects, counter-terrorism, and intelligence-sharing. Israel has overtaken Russia to become India’s largest supplier of military equipment and expertise with sales of land-based surveillance systems, seaborne missiles, and more exceeding $2 billion per year. In addition to that Israel has also provided training to Indian Army soldiers and Special Forces. India and Israel’s most distinctive collaboration is of intelligence. Intelligence agencies of Israel (MOSSAD) and India (RAW).
Options for Pakistan
The indo-Israel strategic partnership will grow in the coming years and bring technological revolution in the Indian military’s electronic and network-centric warfare capabilities. In addition to that, it would improve India’s overall surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities. Pakistan has to improve its bilateral ties in the military sector with other technologically advanced countries like France, Germany, China, and Russia. This collaboration will bring improvement in the overall capabilities of the Pakistan military. Therefore, keeping in mind the Indo-Israeli strategic partnership, Pakistan has to develop and equip its military with the latest weapon and equipment. It has to rely on its indigenous defense industry for the maintenance and development of its military machine and to maintain strategic parity with India with fewer resources.
