Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko's three-day state visit to China has been making headlines worldwide, with the Western media linking it to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. "The Hub with Wang Guan" explores perspectives from the two countries involved. Yauheni Preiherman, director of the Minsk Dialogue Council on International Relations in Minsk, says both the visit and China's position paper on a political settlement of the Ukraine crisis are regarded very favorably by Belarusians. Belarus, though geographically distant and different, shares a similar position and can be China's natural partner in international security. Zhang Xin, associate professor at the School of Politics & International Relations, East China Normal University, thinks while geopolitics is a normal element in any state visit, bilateral ties have multiple layers and can't be defined only by the Ukraine conflict.
