The grand opening ceremony and some other video that I recorded of the new (at the time) pedestrian bridge over Highway 259 Business in Kilgore, Texas. This bridge replaced the old pedestrian bridge, which was struck by an oversize load in April 2019, deemed unsafe, and demolished. More details and Extended Rambling(tm) below.

Other Thoughts:
The interim ground-level crosswalk that was installed following the permanent closure and demolition of the old pedestrian bridge (constructed in 1969 as Kilgore College was expanding across the highway) was, at best, sketchy in terms of safety. As time dragged on, motorists continued to increasingly disregard the crosswalk signals, including even 18-wheeler truck drivers. It was not an uncommon occurrence to see the walk/don't walk sign indicate 'walk', yet traffic would sometimes continue flowing as if the crosswalk almost didn't exist.

The original 1969 crosswalk was built just a few years after the college began its expansion across the highway. The first building on that side of campus to open was the Bonnie Porter Business Administration building, which opened in 1965. The Fine Arts building opened in 1967 or 1968, soon followed by the automotive building sometime in the 1970s. Other buildings exist on that side of campus, but the two that I'm most familiar with are the Fine Arts and Bonnie Porter buildings.
