Reform UK says it will jail people convicted of raping children for life if it wins the next election, as part of a crackdown on grooming gangs. The party argues there is no minimum sentence for child sexual abuse in England and Wales, so judges can give much shorter terms.

Reform’s policy chief Zia Yusuf says rapists of under-16s should get whole-life orders with no parole, and wants mandatory minimum life sentences for adult offenders. The party also says the current system for increasing “unduly lenient” sentences is too slow and that parole rules are too generous.
