Before going to Petra, I thought I was only going to see the beautiful gate of the Treasury carved out from rosy sandstone, but this archaeological site has so much more to offer. The main trail that I walked and the 800 steps that I climbed for the Monastery is the most popular way to spend a day in the city. But if time allows, you should spend a day more to two to explore other hiking trails. Also, it's a special experience to go into Petra after dark for the night show. The Light Festival is only held for two weeks each year but I'm sure Petra by Night, which they spread out a bevy of candles in front of the Treasury, also worths the ticket.
