REDCap is a user-friendly tool used by approximately 2.5 million people across the globe for collecting data. This workshop is designed for people who have a basic knowledge of R and little to no experience working with REDCap. It will begin with a gentle introduction to REDCap including instruction on using the REDCap shared instrument library and building custom data collection forms. Then we will show a completed REDCap project which is used to track the services received by people using Miami, Florida's used needle exchange (The Infectious Disease Elimination Act - IDEA Exchange). Participants will be shown the advantages of the R packages like `tidyREDCap`, `REDCapTidieR` and `REDCapDM` which help extract and summarize data in R. Further, participants will be shown how to use the REDCapR package to easily push and pull data into a REDCap database using API calls with R. People completing the workshop will know how to use these packages and the rUM package to quickly export data from REDCap and produce well-formatted Quarto- and R Markdown-based manuscripts, complete with bibliographies that acknowledge the R packages used to create a paper.
