Karen Read murder trial begins in Boston | LiveNOW from FOX

Karen Read is charged with murdering her boyfriend John O'Keefe in Canton, Massachusetts on January 29th, 2022.

Read has pleaded not guilty to the murder, her lawyers argue she was framed, which is part of an ongoing federal investigation. Her legal team has argued O'Keefe was attacked by a dog during a violent altercation with someone in the house he was at. O'Keefe's body was found in the snow outside the home of another police officer. He was pronounced dead later that night at a hospital.

O'Keefe suffered multiple trauma wounds, including skull fractures and bleeding in the brain, swollen black eyes, and multiple lacerations to his arms.

A judge has ruled that Read's defense team will be allowed to argue someone else killed O'Keefe but not during the opening statements.
