Unveiling the New UK Radon Map

Описание к видео Unveiling the New UK Radon Map

The UK Health Security Agency and British Geological Survey have released an updated radon potential map for Great Britain, providing a more precise analysis of areas likely to have high indoor radon levels. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can accumulate in buildings and cause lung cancer, responsible for around 1,100 deaths annually in the UK. While the overall number of high-risk buildings hasn't increased, the new map uses improved geological mapping and a large database of radon measurements to better identify "Radon Affected Areas" where preventative measures are needed in new construction. It guides local councils on radon-resistant building codes, helps landlords and employers meet safety obligations, and informs homeowners on testing and mitigation needs. Resources like the UKradon website, GIS data, and risk assessment tools enable stakeholders to manage radon hazards effectively
