What No One Tells You About Freedom of Speech

The topic of freedom of speech seems to have gotten a lot of attention lately but I feel like people just seem to skip over any actual arguments and do not look at the nuances. I also realize that the discussion of freedom of speech is often reduced to “offensiveness” when there is so much more to it, and offensiveness is hardly the most important aspect of free speech. In this video, I discuss some of those aspects of freedom of speech that I feel have been left out of the current discussion. Some things that I talk about are:

- Value of freedom of speech for not just the speaker, but also the audience

- Freedom of speech challenging us to think

- The dangers of following a consensus blindly

- Value of personal experience and value of truths in debates
