The Japanese designer, Issey Miyake, does not actually consider himself to be a fashion designer. Instead, informed and influenced by a multitude of disciplines, he attests that his creative output is devoted to “making things, making a product that people enjoy and can wear freely.” His garments often raise questions about pressing critical issues – from ethical awareness to hedonism and racial diversity.

This collection was entitled Feeling the Wind. The loose tailoring in ripped-patterned tiger stripes over black, the dégradé texture knits, and the knit horizontally panelled trousers were all fine. The long wool jackets cut in fringe-edged strips that would feel the wind were prettily frilled. The gust of paint-swirl colour print in the second half of the show added excitement that had previously only been hinted at in flurries, suppressed by a surprising reliance on tailoring from a house that so often works beyond it.
