Its level tunnel runs 1800 feet straight into the side of Mahanoy Mountain. You make the trip riding in an open mine car pulled by a battery-operated mine motor. The temperature inside the mine averages between 48 - 52 degrees. Home to the world's largest known deposits of anthracite coal with an estimated reserve of seven billion short tons. 400 feet below the earth.
