The goal with trimming your cake layers is to trim off the over baked pieces and level it.

The end product cake that you’ll frost and decorate takes a lot of work and you don’t want it to collapse or just be uneven.

And to create that solid foundation, you have to look at the levelness of the cake layer.

Sometimes you don’t have to trim, but sometimes it could be the difference between a leaning cake and a straight, perfect cake.

For the most part, if your cake domes, an easy fix is just slice off the dome and voila! You’re left with an even cake layer.

But sometimes it’s not that easy! So take advantage of a few tips I’ve learned the hard way 😉

Tips:
🍰 Always wait until your cake has cooled before cutting! Hot cakes fall apart when sliced!

🍰 Use a long knife so you can cut the entire cake at once. You’ll be more likely to get an even cut that way!
