What started as a lighthearted challenge has grown into something truly special. Our Executive Director, Joe Hekkema, jokingly challenged Parole Officer Greg Balcom to a foot race—saying after years of allegedly running from the police, he wanted to see if Greg could still keep up! What began as a fun idea has evolved into a full-blown community event complete with food, obstacle courses, and plenty of laughs.

But this race is about more than competition—it’s about unity and understanding. The Race 4 Recovery is bringing together individuals with lived experience and members of law enforcement to show that it’s not us vs. them—it’s all of us working together to help people heal, grow, and thrive. ❤️

We’re also using this event to raise funds for hats, coats, and gloves for our unhoused friends as the cold weather approaches. Every contribution helps us keep someone warm this winter.
