Ian Treherne “The Blind Photographer” 2025:
The aim of the project is to share work, research, or work in progress by Southend based creatives, in the form of a one-minute video.

BIO CONCEPT DESCRIPTION OF THE VIDEO SLIDE:

Ian is a photographer with a truly unique take on the world, navigating it through the lens of RP Type 2 Usher Syndrome. (Deafness & Blindness).

From the moment Ian was told he was going blind age 15. He had this sense of urgency to see as much as possible. Photograph and collect as many images and memories before the curtains are drawn permanently. And determined to pursue his dream of becoming a photographer.

Photography is about many ideas in one moment being captured. Light, shadows, texture, materials and atmosphere all play a pivotal role to create the final image and is predominately inspired by cinema, music and literature.

Over the last few years the Paralympics and conversations online have empowered a positive start in image diversity representation in the media, sports and entertainment.
It has pushed large corporate brands to start showing different disabilities and ranges of diverse people in the media ecology.

Ian Treherne’s photographs are not just about what is seen, but about how the viewer experiences the image. He emphasises that his art is about feeling, intuition, and connection, rather than simply visual perfection.
In many ways, his work challenges people to engage with art beyond just the visual and to think about how we all experience the world with our senses.
