Skyline Pond - Bluegills Galore but Bass No More

Описание к видео Skyline Pond - Bluegills Galore but Bass No More

Skyline Pond was last stocked with largemouth bass in 2005 as the pond was deemed self-sustaining; however, I remember Skyline Pond being drained 2 or 3 years ago as I spoke to someone there at the time when it was closed.
I mentioned this to someone in Utah Dept of Natural Resources and he said he would try to get the pond restocked with bass. Yay!!!

In the meantime, I recommend my viewers treat this pond as a spring/summer bluegill pond or fall/winter stocked trout pond unless you really have time to fish for bass which may not be here.
If you want to catch small 3 to 4 inch bluegills or better yet take pictures of your children catching them, then this is the pond to fish.

Skip to 12:21 if you want to see the bluegills and green sunfishes being caught.

This park has the most amount of trash of all our local community ponds. I believe this is due to the lack of trash cans around the pond. Trash cans are at the bathrooms and parking lot which are both at the entrance. Please bring a bag to put your trash in and any that you find so you can throw it away as you leave.

There's a nice fishing pier with railing for safety. Unfortunately, the same railing will prevent young kids from gazing at all the little fishies swimming underneath and biting their hooks.

Alternatively, there is a rock ledge that overhangs the water where young kids can drop a line (literally straight down) and catch bluegills IF you are comfortable with them close to the rock edge.

Both locations are in my video if you want to see what it's like before driving there. You can also see the fish to catch and how many.

Best Kid Gear: Any rod with any clear line but I recommend 2 to 4 lb for the light jig head.
Tie on a Trout Magnet jig head (1/64 oz) using a simple Surgeon's Loop Knot (or any loop knot you find on the internet). The loop knot will hold the jig head horizontally so it's easier for bluegills to bite and reduce gut hooking because their mouths will bump the vertical fishing line unless you just wait far too long to set the hook.
Then use some pliers to crush down the barb of the hook to make it safer for you and your kids and save the fishies' mouths from being torn apart from everyone trying to catch them.
Lastly, thread the hook through a white Gulp Maggot and drop it into the water.

If interested in seeing how I rig this, just comment below and I'll go fishing (such torture LOL) and record everything to set this up and use it.

Walmart sells a pack of 2 Trout Magnet jig heads + 9 lures bodies (save them for trout season) for $1.97. Sportsman is $2.29.
Sportsman has a jar of several Gulp Maggot (guessing 70 to 100) for $5.79. Gulp is biodegradable!
