Correctional Services Chief leads raid at Durban Westville facilities, seizes contraband

The National Commissioner of the Department of Correctional Services, Makgothi Thobakgale, says the influx of contraband at correctional facilities is disturbing and culprits, whether inmates or officials, will face the consequences.

Thobakgale led a raid at the Durban Westville Correctional Centre to curb the smuggling of contraband. Scores of cell phones, charging cables, and drugs, including a flat-screen TV were found.

Thobakgale has committed to lead more raids at correctional facilities across the country to implement the department's zero-tolerance policy towards the smuggling of prohibited items at all its centres. He promised harsh action against officials involved in enabling the smuggling of illegal goods.
