Описание к видео ADG Episode 196 - Pinball Construction Set

I still find it weird how early computer pinball games were terrible at depicting real pinball machines in their artwork and packaging. :P

In any case, today on Ancient DOS Games, Gemini's taking a look at Pinball Construction Set, a very early game creation system developed by Bill Budge (under the business name BudgeCo) and published through Electronic Arts in 1982 for the Apple II, then eventually landing on PCs in 1985.

Despite how outdated this thing is by today's standards there was absolutely nothing even remotely like it when it came out, and despite competition from Macadam Bumper not too long following, few programs ever attempted to tackle custom pinball tables since, thus it remains one of the few programs capable of this. It's also one of the easiest commercial 80s games to get a hold of nowadays, much to my surprise. :o

Additional Information and Corrections:

Here's the page on my website where you can download my custom tables from as their own separate executables; You don't need PCS to play these, just DOSBox or a DOS computer: http://www.pixelships.com/misc/pcs.html

I might be wrong about my copy of the original Deluxe Paint coming in a sleeve instead of a box. I remember having one of those sleeves at one point and I thought it was for Deluxe Paint, but the memories are so vague... it could've been for anything, or it could be I got to handle one in a store without actually owning the software. :/

I noticed while editing this video that the pre-included table "Minute Magic" is awfully similar to a real (and extremely popular for the time) pinball machine known as Black Knight: http://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=310

I've been informed that a game for the TRS-80 simply called "Pinball" technically has PCS beat in terms of being able to edit pinball tables by a whole two years! Only catch is that... well... TRS-80 Pinball is extremely basic (more-so than Video Pinball on the Atari 2600) and the only parts you can add/remove are bumpers and "block" targets like you would find in a breakout game. :P
