Syd was already late. The private jet waiting on the tarmac for her to fly to Geneva wasn't the problem; it was the two-hour delay getting through security and the aggressive scrutiny from Officer Ben Sterling, who now had his hand hovering near the restraint on his belt.
“Ma’am, I need you to explain this documentation, specifically the term ‘vulnerability assessment’ as it relates to infrastructure,” Officer Sterling demanded, his voice flat and laced with an antagonistic edge that had nothing to do with protocol. He held up a crumpled, redacted memo Syd had carelessly left sticking out of her briefcase. It was coded language, corporate jargon, but in the context of an airport, with a man looking for trouble, it sounded ominous.
Syd sighed, trying to keep her tone professional, not confrontational. “Officer, that is proprietary information related to a contract proposal for Aethelred Solutions. We analyze potential weaknesses in corporate security networks. It has nothing to do with this airport or physical infrastructure.”
