September 3 is the feast of Saint Gregory the Great (540–604), one of the greatest popes in Church history. ✝️👑

Gregory grew up in Rome and became pope at a time when the city faced many challenges. Instead of living in luxury, he chose a life of humility and service. He cared for the poor, protected the Church, sent missionaries to faraway lands, and guided the faithful with wisdom.

Gregory also gave us the Gregorian Chant, a special form of liturgical music still sung in churches today. Because of his wise writings and teachings, he is called a Doctor of the Church.
