As I lay on the sofa watching TV; mom changed the channel to a program talking about a WGPR TV and Radio Station museum. I was surprised to discover that there was a museum inside the WGPR TV and Radio Station.

Growing up on the Eastside of Detroit, watching the Sence dance show on TV was enjoyable. To see my friends and others do the latest dance movies that were popular at that time.

As I watched the program of the history of WGPR, I felt delighted that there was history as I listened to the vision of a man named William V. Banks.

In 1975, William V. Banks was the first African American to own and operate a television station in the United States, WGPR-TV in Detroit, MI. He also became the owner, in 1964, of the first Black radio station in Detroit, WGPR-FM.

The William V. Banks Broadcast Museum & Media Center is location 3146 E Jefferson Ave, Detroit, MI 48207.

On my first visit to the museum, I had the honor to meet a gentleman named Mr. Joe Spencer, a former Program Director of WGPR-TV and president of the WGPR-TV Historical Society and restaurant owner of Louisana Creole Gumbo. Mr. Spencer kindly gave me a tour explaining the history.
