Dark Angel (1990) – Murderous Drug Dealing Aliens - Explored - An Underrated Sci-fi Action Flick!

Craig R. Baxley’s science fiction action flick might have hit the theatres way back in 1990, but it is still quite hard to disregard the one-liners from the movie. In fact, this actually makes one wonder why films like this, especially ones that are jampacked with such epic one-liners aren’t made anymore! Most of you know that the original title of the movie was ‘Dark Angel’; in fact, that is precisely how the movie was intended to be released in the United States. Well, here’s an interesting trivia that might surprise you. The project was apparently titled ‘Lethal Contact’, at least that’s what Jonathan Tydor’s spec script of 1984 stated. However, the production along with the filming and the international title was ‘Dark Angel’, and that’s how it was released worldwide but in due course, the movie title was altered to ‘I Come in Peace’ to avoid confusion with two other existing flicks from the 20s and 30s that also had the same title, ‘The Dark Angel’. Full credits to Triumph Releasing Corporation for renaming the film to what it is popularly known as today! And, in spite of a limited theatrical release in the UK cinemas, ‘I Come In Peace’ eventually became quite the surprise hit. All thanks to some good word-of-mouth and also the fact that it did pretty well in the video stores there. The movie actually fell under the category of the top ten rentals and consistently maintained its ranking for many weeks.
